Murano Glass Vesuvio Threaded Fazzoletto Vase Signed
Beautiful signed Murano glass fazzoletto vase — a Vesuvio / threaded fazzoletto style piece with multicolored threading and metallic flecks. The overall palette is very autumnal: amber, green, blue, and rust-orange. The rim is wavy / fluted, giving the classic handkerchief (fazzoletto) effect. This is a hand-blown, artisan piece (signed on the base) and bears a small Murano sticker on the inside near the top marked 036 (or D36). See photos for signature, sticker, and chip details.

About the Technique & Maker Notes (useful for buyers)
-
Fazzoletto is Italian for “handkerchief.” The shape — soft, flowing folds and a fluted/wavy rim — is created by skilled Murano glassmasters working hot glass with rapid, decisive hand movements (a technique often called mano volante). Each fazzoletto is essentially unique because the final folds depend on the artisan’s gestures and gravity.
-
The threaded / filigree look (thin threads of colored glass embedded in the body) is related to traditional Murano filigrana techniques (including zanfirico/retortoli and other canne/filigree methods) where canes are stretched, twisted, and incorporated into the blown form. This threading creates the multicolored linear patterns you see on this piece.
-
The tiny metallic/chromium-like flecks embedded in the glass are consistent with aventurine/“gold (or metal) fleck” techniques used in Venetian/Murano art glass — metallic oxides or metal particles (copper, chromium, etc.) are added to produce that sparkling, reflective quality. (Exact metal used can vary by maker.)
-
The Murano sticker / label code (numerical sticker such as 036 or D36) and a signature on the base are both common indicators that the piece was produced on Murano and/or by a small studio working in the Murano tradition. There are registries and label guides for Vetri Murano sticker codes if you want to pursue maker attribution.
