Vtg 1987 Rémy Surpris Noah's Ark Folk Art Oil on Canvas
This is a vintage oil painting on canvas done by Rémy Surpris. The art appears to be Noah filling his ark with animals. Rémy Surpris is a Haitian artist born in 1950. The details on the piece of artwork for its size are incredible. The piece does have some staining on the bottom of the wooden frame and canvas. A professional may be able to remove this, but I did not want to attempt to do so for fear of damaging this piece of artwork. The lower right-hand corner is signed "Rémy Surpris 87." I do not know the provenance of the piece and do not have a COA for it. The back features a label about the artist. Stating:
Rémy Surpris
Born October 22, 1950 in Leogane. Rémy Surpris had seven years of schooling at Casernes Dessalines. A self-taught artist he began painting at the age of sixteen designing with pencil. Initially he was under the guidance of his cousin Guy Beauvais.
The piece has "8563" and other markings on the back of the frame in black marker. It appear the frame was handmade.
Condition: The frame has some staining on the inner portion of the frame on the left-hand side. The art has some brown spots on top of the finish. The piece and frame are in great shape outside of the aforementioned flaws. Please carefully review the images as they serve as an extension of the description.
